I read a study today that said up to 90% of people between the ages of 18 to 25 sleep with their smartphones right next to their beds. Needless to say I’m guilty of it. The morning sun rises and I reach over to give it a kiss and snuggle with it while I open my eyes. I then play with it for about 20 minutes before starting my day.
Has the iPhone replaced small pet or significant other?
I went to dinner with my friends the other night and came to realize that our smartphones were (somewhat) unwelcome guests at our dinner party. When I mentioned how lame it was that we were all on our phones my friend Emily joked, “I didn’t catch that- could you text it to me?”
The scary thing is, that’s where we are heading.
I hate to say this but when it comes to breaking news I’m most likely to hear about it from some horrible upper lower case facebook status or tweet.” LiKE ZoMg dID yoU hEAr bout Dat EarthQuakE YaLL?” What earthquake? Oh snap Google it!
Sometimes Google will even be behind twitter. And CNN might as well be a dinosaur.
But what happens when our world gets reduced to social media happenings, checking in and 46 character limits?
Is this revolution a good thing or a bad thing?
What happens when our iPhones are the reason we get up and go…and without them we feel lost?
Without my iPhone gps I don’t know what I would do. I found myself questioning the other day while on a road trip, “how did I do this without you?”
I read a study that said a group of women in south east Asia have been getting a rare form of carpel tunnel because of writing entire novels on their smartphones and PDAs.
With the word processing apps coming up people are working and playing on the go.
Go To Meeting from the iPhone, creating a PowerPoint presentation on your phone, reading what Ashton Kutcher had for breakfast (why do so many people follow that dummy?)
But it’s interesting to think where we will be in 5 to 10 years. The technology is moving so fast it’s hard to tell.
Will we all still have our buddies sleeping next to us by the side of the bed?
Will people be writing entire novels with two fingers?
I don’t know but I’ll tell you one thing- writing a novel on one of these bad boys must be quite the task.
I should know…I just wrote this whole blog entry on my iPhone.
Now it’s off to bed. She’s going to catch some Zzzz’s right here by my side.
