You’re Toxic I’m Slipping Under
Do we live in a toxic world?
Are we slipping under?
Maybe Britney isn’t as dumb as she looks (or her lyricists at least).
Rob and I went to the grocery store today. We had one goal in mind: buy fresh fruits and vegetables for our detox cleanse that we are doing next week. I decided a few months ago (and am finally getting around to it now) that I would like to try a one week cleanse. If you have never heard of it, it is a way to clear your body from all the “toxins” that we build up over time.
50 years ago “high fructose corn syrup” was the stuff of science fiction novels.
Nowadays you cannot find more than 5 processed foods without the stuff in it.
What is it? It’s a chemical, it is a manufactured sugar, it’s a substitute, it’s a toxin.
Do we need it? No.
Do we want it? Yes.
Tell them Brit Brit, “And I love what you do, don’t you know that’s your toxic?”
So Rob and I are scrambling around the store looking for any foods with less than 5 ingredients in them. One small box of frozen dinner had over 30 ingredients. What the hell is Butylated Hydroxytoluen? Disodium Inosinate/Guanylate? Sodium Aluminosilicate?
Are we trying to run an engine here?
I tell you it was almost impossible to find things without toxins in them. These things are toxic! And yet they seem to have somehow slipped themselves right onto the American dinner table next to the mashed potatoes and green beans. Then they wonder why people struggle with their weight? They wonder why there is an influx of juvenile diabetes?
And the food is not the only toxins.
How many factories do you have in a twelve-mile radius?
Do you know what they are putting in your water? Do you know what they put in our air? Or what they are doing to the little frogs, fishes, deer, squirrels in your area? The ecosystem?
A for the people who work in the factories, the communities around the factories, the children playing in the playground located across from the oil refinery, I ask you — what about them?
It’s not a pretty picture.
The news is toxic.
How many times have you heard this news headline (or a variation of it):
“Up next at 10: The flu epidemic. Six more deaths in YOUR area. Stay tuned to find out how YOU can survive this new killing machine.”
“Another murder in Philadelphia. Hear how one mother is mourning the loss of her son this evening after a deadly shoot out.”
There is hardly any positive news, they feed on the toxins. The news agencies love to spread fear. The more fear they spread the more they control us and keep us in the highest state of anxiety.
People can be toxic.
Have you ever felt drained by someone? Like you literally don’t have any energy left when you are done dealing with them? Or someone so negative you find yourself feeling depressed?
I encounter these energy vampires all the time. They are unable to survive without you. They need your energy, your positivity, your inner strength.
These people are toxic. They will influence you negatively, they will start to change your entire being. Get away while you can, close the door, distance yourself.
Stress creates toxins.
Americans live in a constant state of anxiety. Have to be here at this time. Must eat lunch in 20 minutes to get back to work on time. Have to pick up Johnny from school. Must keep to the speed limit. Have to cook dinner and do dishes when I get home. Make sure Johnny does homework. Lay down to sleep. Must worry about other things I must do at work tomorrow. Proposal is due Thursday. Don’t get any sleep. Wake up at 6 a.m. Start the day all over again.
This is life??
Studies have shown the effects of stress on the body. Stress can kill.
People who are stressed can suffer from:
Insomnia, headaches, weight gain, weight loss, jaw clenching, nausea, digestive problems, constipation, dry mouth, cold sweats, tremors, stuttering, fits of rage, obsessive compulsive behavior, panic attacks, difficulty breathing, migraines, anxiety attacks, frequent urination, neck pain, back pain, and this is just to name a FEW.
Tell me that doesn’t sound like a prescription medication ad.
Stress is a poison. It’s a toxin. We must learn to overcome stress in order to survive.
When it comes to all these poison, all these toxins, you have to ask yourself:
Am I poisoning myself? Am I slipping under?
“Too high, can’t come down, it’s in the air and it’s all around.”
As soon as you feel yourself slip, hold on. Pick yourself up. Get rid of those toxins.
Create a positive home. A clean home.
Don’t let the news get you down. Turn the TV off.
Leave the energy vampires in the dust.
Stop the stress. Or learn to process it better.
At the end of the day the answer is yes, we do live in a toxic world.
But we have a choice:
Take a bite of the poisoned apple. Follow the wandering crowds.
Or create your own path.
I’m done with the negative. I’ve had enough of the vampires. I’m over the artificial sugar high.
I’m building my own path. Laying my own bricks. Heading down off this new road and looking forward to whatever comes my way.
