❤ Love is in the Air ❤

‘Tis that time of year again when all the relationship statuses on Facebook begin to change from “single” to “in a relationship.” And you know it’s official when it’s official on Facebook.

Spring is on the way and, as they say, “love is in the air.”

Unfortunately for me influenza is also in the air so I am sitting at home wrapped up in blankets with a cold pack on my head. Blergh.

But I was reading today that this month (February) along with being Black History month it is also “Creative Love Month” and “National Wedding Month.”

“Creative Love Month” is designed to encourage couples to find new and creative ways to express their love while “National Wedding Month” is a holiday probably created by wedding vendors to try and encourage more business. Whatever way you look at it (for profit or not) I like the idea of celebrating love- not just once a month, but all the time.

So I have compiled some tips for Creative Love Month (for the singles and for the couples). I have also compiled a list of my favorite wedding-ish stuff. Since my wedding has been put on hold until our financial circumstances improve I now look at weddings like I look at hot shoes I can’t afford. It’s like neverending window shopping.

Celebrate Love in Creative Ways:

1. Do Something Spontaneous

Spontaneous

I love spontaneous adventures. One of my favorite things to do is to tell Rob, “get in the car we are going somewhere” and then surprise him with a picnic in the park or ice skating or dinner and a movie. Sometimes when we get comfortable in relationships we forget the things we liked to do when we first started dating. We lose the spark that kept us alive.

Some people say, “oh the man should do that” or “I’ll wait for my partner to plan that.” But I say, “why? Why not do it yourself?”

Relationships are a two way street, my dear, and if he/she is not being romantic then why should you follow the same pattern? Break it. Be creative.

For the single ladies and gentleman- being spontaneous is just as important. Why not indulge yourself? You never know what it will lead to.

Feeling like taking a spur of the moment trip to Boston? Why not? Want to try out that yoga class? Go ahead! Interested in learning a new language? Do it! There is nothing stopping you. Be spontaneous and live your life to the fullest. It is the best advice I have ever received.

2. Spice it Up

As they say “variety is the spice of life” so add some variety to the things you do. I’m not just talking in the bedroom but also in the kitchen. Your cabinets are probably filled with aphrodisiacs and you don’t even know it. Here are just some aphrodisiacs:

  • Almonds
  • Arugula
  • Avocado
  • Banana
  • Basil
  • Chocolate
  • Carrots
  • And much, much more!

And let me tell you something- when they say “a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” they aren’t lying. If you can whip up an awesome meal along with being his little sexpot- he is sold! But this saying doesn’t just hold true for men. Ladies- would you really object if your man said, “I’m glad you are home early honey. I hope you don’t mind but I made dinner.” And then you sit down and it is the most amazing thing you have ever tasted!

Cook more! And cook with variety. If you haven’t tried a recipe before, start now! If you want to go try the new Thai restaurant in town, do it! Get creative people!

3. Get Back To Where You Once Belonged

Love yourself

I know I say it a lot but really loving yourself has to come first. Someone once told me, “it’s like the warning before you fly. If the oxygen masks come down you have to take the oxygen yourself before you can place the mask on other people. Love is the same way.” He couldn’t have been more right. If we deplete our oxygen what use are we to other people?

Make that spa appointment, get your hair done, do your nails, try on some sexy clothes, take pride in your appearance. That goes for the ladies AND the men! Remember the Beatles lyrics, “get back, get back, get back to where you once belonged.” Do you remember your hay days? Get your most flattering picture out. Stick it up at the cubicle at work. Tell yourself, “I’m going to be there again.” Nothing is impossible.

Single ladies and gents- have you removed yourself from an ugly relationship? Have you allowed someone to take your self esteem? SCREW THEM! Get back to where you once belonged. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

You are amazing and you are worth it now get out there and show the world how awesome you are.
4. Actually Get Creative

I have met engineers who enjoy writing, plumbers who like to paint and athletes who enjoy dancing. I really do believe everyone has a spark of creativity within them that is just waiting to be ignited.

Maybe it is high time you and your partner or you alone took up a creative hobby!

Take up a hobby.

I have recently really gotten into painting or coloring mandalas. I find it incredibly soothing. You can find some blank mandalas to paint here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1021634/free_printable_mandala_coloring_pages.html?cat=46.

Creativity can unleash an inner drive for life. Write poetry, take a dance class, enroll in a pottery class, pick up that paintbrush and watch as your inner spirit come to life.
