Do you own a rocking pair of red heels? Wear them today in support of the thousands of women around the world who are infected with HIV or the AIDs Virus.

What are the numbers anyway?

Well right now more than 34 million people around the world are living with HIV/AIDS. 3.3 million of them are under the age of 15.

Under the age of 15!!

In our neck of the woods, things aren’t looking much better.

According to the CDC, “more than 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV infection, and almost 1 in 5 (18.1%) are unaware of their infection.”

In the US, women still represent 27% of all new AIDS diagnoses, with African-American women accounting for 66% of that group.

Though AIDs and HIV treatment has come a long way, this disease is still being spread at an alarming rate and accounts for millions of deaths a year.

Stomp your red heel and say, “no more!”

What can we do?

1. Raise Awareness

This is not just a “disease from the past” or “a homosexual disease” or “a disease spread by drug use.” This is a REAL disease that affects REAL people. (Read the top 10 AIDs myths).

It could affect me or you or your cousin or your sister or you friend.

One way you can help is to raise awareness! Talk to your friends and family members. Talk to strangers! Encourage others to get tested or to practice safe sex.

2. Protect Yourself, Love Yourself
Many men and women engage in risky sexual behavior without consideration. But just like Russian roulette it only takes one risky encounter to become infected.

Respect yourself enough to protect yourself. Practice safe sex.

If you are in long term relationship, get tested WITH your partner. Know where you both stand.

Protection is key to stopping the spread of this disease.

3. Help Others Infected
Whether you take time to find your local testing centers, educate others in your community, or help those infected with AIDs worldwide, you can help others and make a change.
